Cabin
Cabin is about the process of making a painting. The process began with a small photograph I took on Martha's Vineyard, USA. Enlarging the image created gaps in both the information being translated and in the understanding of this information. These ‘holes’ provided the propagation from which the painting could develop.
There was constant feedback between subject and process, whereby the ‘making of’ the painting became evident in the subject, whether through the preservation of certain marks, or by the literal scattering of studio detritus within the pictorial content. The protracted, labour intensive nature of the painting allowed for a time-scale during which the painting took several changes of direction; the process of painting acting as a web in which other components and references became entangled, before being absorbed into the image.
